“Cute” is an entirely subjective concept. Even “small” can be subjective. After all, if you’re 6ft 4in, anyone under 6ft will look small to you. However, we gamely listed 12 small and adorable dogs that rank high in the “cute” category and also rank among the smallest breeds recognized by the AKC. They are in no particular order: we can only imagine the arguments that would happen if we ranked this list! We’re absolutely sure we missed someone’s favorite cute little breed.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
If this happy, gentle puppy doesn’t appeal to you, check your pulse. Happy, adaptable, loving and with twinkling eyes that melt hearts, Knight is an ideal companion. Weighing in at just 13 to 18 pounds, there’s still a lot to love in this small, elegant package.

With its bat ears and crumpled face, the French bulldog may not sound very cute, but it’s actually irresistible. He is so playful, affectionate, and intelligent that he can turn anyone into an adoring fan of the breed. Muscular and compact, the handsome boy is only 12 inches tall and weighs between 20 and 28 pounds (male) and 16 and 24 pounds (female).
